Michael Matsui -- first-team all-HCAC

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed five players on the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball team, in results released today by the league office.

Senior Michael Matsui (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) was joined by sophomores Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.), Chandler Kent (Antioch, Ill.), Keenan Long (Park Ridge, Ill./ Northwestern University) and Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) on the first-team all-league squad.

In addition, senior Sam Deters (Teutopolis, Ill.) and sophomore Andrew Bilse (Munster) claimed honorable mention all-league accolades.

Derek Eitel -- first-team all-HCAC

Matsui finished 10-1 on the mound with a 2.06 earned run average during the regular season to rank first in the conference in each category.

Matsui's 10 victories rank third on the Engineer single-season list and his earned run average of 2.06 stands sixth in school history.

He also serves as an infielder for the Engineers with a .303 average and 30 hits in 99 at bats.

Eitel earned Rose-Hulman's first ever NCAA Division III Tournament win with a complete game shutout on Wednesday night.  The right-hander stands 9-3 overall with a 2.39 earned run average this season.

Eitel has tossed 98 innings in 2008, scattering 72 hits with 84 strikeouts.  The strikeout total ranks fifth in single-season school history.

His efforts also include a pair of shutouts and the opposition tallying just a .199 average against the right-hander.

Chandler Kent -- first-team all-HCAC

Kent stands third on the team with a .365 batting average on 61 hits, including 13 doubles.  His efforts include 35 runs scored, 29 RBIs and a .404 on-base average.

The versatile infielder starts at both the shortstop and third base positions at various times for the Engineers.  His 61 hits rank eighth in single-season school history.

Long jumped into the Engineer lineup as the team's starting catcher in his first season on campus.  His efforts include a .380 batting average, 13 doubles and seven home runs.

Long's seven home runs rank sixth in school history.  His season highlight included four home runs at last weekend's HCAC Tournament, including a 10th inning walk-off home run in a victory over Transylvania University.

Keenan Long -- first-team all-HCAC

Tepe has established a new single-season Rose-Hulman school record with 67 hits and needs two RBIs to tie the Engineer single-season mark.

Tepe leads the team in batting average at .394, ranks third in school history with 19 doubles and has scored 37 runs.  His statistics include a .457 on-base average and a .571 slugging percentage.

On the honorable mention side, Deters has served as Rose-Hulman's closer during the 2008 campaign.  He holds career and single-season school records for saves.

Deters has tallied 18 saves in his Engineer career along with a school record seven this season.  He has a 2-2 record and a 2.66 earned run average with 37 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work.

Tim Tepe -- first-team all-HCAC

Bilse emerged as the Engineer leadoff hitter in his second college season.  He holds a .315 average and ranks second in single-season school history with 51 runs scored.

Bilse also leads the Engineers with 32 walks and has tallied a .445 on-base peercentage.  He also has five outfield assists this spring.

Rose-Hulman has a 32-13 record and returns to NCAA Division III Mideast Regional action tonight at 7 p.m. against Adrian College.
