TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The men's and women's soccer
teams from Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology have been picked to finish second in the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in a preseason poll
of league coaches released today.
The women's squad received four of nine
first-place votes and tallied 70 points to finish second in a
tight poll. Transylvania had 73 total points on two
first-place selections, with Mount St. Joseph chosen third at 69
points, including three top honors.
On the men's side, Transylvania received eight of
nine first place votes to earn top honors. Rose-Hulman
placed second overall with 67 points, while Manchester had a
total of 64 points and picked up the remaining first-place vote.
Rose-Hulman's women look to defend their HCAC
regular season and tournament titles under first-year head coach
Emily Hakeman this season. The Engineers finish the return
of six all-conference players, highlighted by 2007 Freshman of
the Year Molly Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's
Country Day).
First-team honoree Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe,
Mich./Northwestern University) joins second-team selections
Jen Lyman (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) and Ame Turner
(Evansville/ North) as returning all-league selections from
last year's 19-3 squad that finished unbeaten in HCAC play.
