+ Equipment Needed:

- 5-10 small rocks. Use the same kind (i.e. same density), try to get them smooth without jagged edges, and make them in the 50 - 150 gram range.

- 100 gram mass from an old science lab scale set. This will be called our known or reference mass. In lieu of this you can use a rock of "known" mass as the standard with which you compare the other rocks.

- Shoebox or small container to hold the rocks and the known mass.

- Forms (described below) which you use to anonymously collect data and a few pencils - attached by string to the table or box.

- A table on which to set out this equipment. The table should be in a public area where students, faculty, and staff can see it, but in a "protected" area where it would not be subject to "vandalism."
