This is a non-traditional projectile problem with a counterintuitive solution.


One could further ask the students to consider what is the best thing to do, i.e. determine angle and distance up the hill as a function of the inclination of the hill as well. We have not done this yet ourselves, but it might be interesting to plot the the angle of elevation of the launch of the projectile from horizontal using a minimum distance up the hill as a function of the angle of inclination of the hill itself.
