The following issues in curve fitting: global or piecewise, basis functions, constraints, undetermined coefficients, etc. Here there are many possible strategies to solve the problem and there is not a single unique solution that designers would agree on. Trade offs would be made differently by different designers.

This is a problem that would be difficult without a CAS.
