Constitution of the
Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club Preamble In
view of the fact that it is necessary to broaden one’s talents, the
students of
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology find it beneficial to form the
Rose-Hulman
Ballroom Dancing Club. This club plans to provide for its members
an
opportunity to learn and enjoy various styles of dance falling under
the broad
category of ballroom dancing and a social setting in which to share
this
interest. Article
I: Name and Purpose Name:
Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club Purpose:
To provide a convenient way for its members to learn and advance in
various
dance styles. This club will also make available to its members
information
about social dance events occurring both on and off the Rose-Hulman
campus. Article
II: Membership Membership:
Membership in the Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club will be open to any
student, staff member, or faculty member currently enrolled at or
employed by
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Membership will not be
contingent on
past dance experience. In order to gain and retain member status,
a
member must come once a month to a club meeting. Voting
Membership: Any person wishing to become a Voting Member must
attend two
(2) consecutive club meetings. To retain Voting Member status, the
member must
attend one (1) club meeting per month. All officers must first
have
voting status to hold office. Article
III: Meetings Meetings
will regularly be held at least once a month with appropriate advance
notice. A quorum at any meeting shall consist of at least one
third of
the voting members on the official membership list. Article
IV: Organizational Structure Officers:
Each Voting Member of the Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club is eligible
to hold
the following positions:
Duties
of the President: The president is responsible for
establishing and
promoting the goals and objectives of the Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing
Club. The president shall also be responsible for organizing
meetings and
dance classes while working with the other officers and club members.
The
president should run all meetings. The president is strongly preferred
to have
some dance experience. Duties
of the Vice President: The Vice President is responsible for
aiding
the President in all his/her duties. The Vice President should be
able to
run the club meetings if the President is unable to attend. The
Vice
President must be prepared to take over the duties of the President if
he/she
is unable to effectively perform them. The Vice President is
preferred to
have some dance experience. Duties
of the Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for recording
the
names of all members present at each meeting. The Secretary is
responsible for appointing a Webmaster. The Secretary is also
responsible for
keeping any necessary minutes of the meetings and making them available
to the
Webmaster. The Secretary will be called upon to assist the President or
Vice
President in issuing communications to the public and the rest of the
club. Duties
of the Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for leading
the other
officers in preparing the budget. The Treasurer is also responsible for
keeping
and presenting a balance of the club’s balance. The Treasurer is
also
responsible for requesting a budget from SGA and for collections of
receipts
from all expenses. The Treasurer is responsible for approving,
paying,
and keeping track of any bills that are charged to the Rose-Hulman
Ballroom
Dancing Club account. All reimbursements will be approved and
issued by
the Treasurer. Duties
of the Director of Dancer Relations: The Director of Dancer
Relations has
the duty of leading the research of possible instructors and the cost.
The
Director of Dancer Relations also has the responsibility of maintaining
the
club “library” of ballroom dancing music. The Director of Dancer
Relations must
be an experienced dancer. Duties
of the Faculty Advisor: The Faculty Advisor shall provide
year to
year continuity, guidance, and ideas for the group. The Faculty
Advisor
has the power to veto decisions that violate school policy or do not
appear to
be in the best interests of the institute or its students. Election
of Officers: The election of officers for the next school
year will
be held in April. The casting of votes during elections will only
be open
to officers and Voting Members. Nominations will be held for one week
prior to
elections. Voting:
All issues brought before the Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club are to
be voted
upon by all the Voting Members present at the meeting when the issue is
first
brought up and will be resolved by a simply majority. However, if a
quorum is
not present, the issue is to be tabled and voted upon at the next
meeting. Removal
of Officers: Any officer may be removed from his/her
respective
office if he/she fails to fulfill the duties and responsibilities as
defined by
the Constitution of the Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club. If for
any
reason an officer is unable to perform his or her duties adequately
they are
first to be informed of the situation by either the club President or
Faculty
Advisor. If the officer under consideration is the President then
the
Vice President or Faculty Advisor should inform him/her of the problem.
The
individual under question will be given two weeks to rectify the
problem.
If by the end of two weeks the problem still exists, then the Secretary
will
read the charge to all voting members, the issue will be discussed, and
a vote
cast. A quorum and two thirds majority is required to expel an
officer
from the office. Any officer can withdraw from his/her position
if two
weeks notice is given. Article
V: Amendments Amendments:
All Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing Club members will vote upon all
changes to the
constitution, goals, and objectives of the Rose-Hulman Ballroom Dancing
Club. A quorum and two-thirds majority is necessary to ratify an
amendment. |
