In the Beginning
Sometime prior to March of 1912, a stray cat showed up in Rose Poly's chemical laboratory. Apparently, our brothers at that time became somewhat attached to the cat, and it became something of a Chapter mascot. Unfortunately, the cat died a short time later - in June of that year.

The Legend Continues
The brothers of Iota Chapter have always enjoyed the story of Roseaniline Ammonia. This past academic year, the brothers, wanting to obtain another mascot, came into possession of another cat - this time though, it was only a stuffed animal. The cat participated in the fall quarter pledge program and initiation. Since then, Roseaniline has become quite the road warrior, travelling as far as the South Dakota School of Mines (Beta Phi), and has visited such sites as Mount Rushmore. This page will detail all of Roseaniline's adventures. Be sure to check back from time to time to see what our cat has done recently.

Meeting Brother Chi
Perhaps the Fraternity's best-known mascot is Brother Chi, from Epsilon. In February of 1999, Roseaniline had the chance to meet Brother Chi. Some brothers had traveled to Indiana University to help the Epsilon chapter with their Boy Scout Merit Badge program that day. WHile the brothers were cleaning up after the event, Roseaniline and Brother Chi spent some time alone in one of the chemistry labs.

Some time later, MA Chip Bennett received some revealing photographs of Roseaniline's tryst with Brother Chi, as well as the dividends - their offspring: three cat-fur covered, small wooden chi's.

Wild,Wild West
During the spring of 1999, Roseaniline accompanied brothers John Becker and Bill Harding on a road trip to chapters west of Terre Haute. Roseaniline made appearances at Zeta (University of Illinois), Alpha Theta (Iowa), Beta Phi (South Dakota School of Mines), and Alpha (Wisconsin). The point of the road trip was to observe Beta Phi's unique initiation, which is held in a cave. Fortunately for Roseaniline, cats have fur, because John and Bill spent much of the trip bundled up. While out west, Roseaniline had the opportunity to visit Mount Rushmore and the Happy Chef. Pictures of the trip will be forthcoming.

First Trip East
Less than a month after the trip out west, Roseaniline accompanied brother Becker on a visit to some of the eastern chapters. This time, Roseaniline made appearances at Gamme Eta (Marshall) - where she visited with GMC Gary Anderson - Beta Chi (Hampden-Sydney), Gamma Kappa (James Madison), and Alpha Kappa (Virginia), where she met GVD (Grand Venerable Degenerate) Sherrie Settle, ECDC. And yes, Roseaniline did think that the GVD had nice knobs, and even got to try them on! Roseaniline had also finished her pledge axe in time for this trip, so many of the brothers she visited have now signed the axe. Pictures of this trip will also be available soon.

Kidnapped!
Shortly after the trip out east, Roseaniline again accompanied brother Becker, this time to Upsilon's initiation. Unfortunately, this time disaster struck. Roseaniline did not return home from Upsilon. She was last seen fraternizing with a group of Upsilon pledges. Iota Chapter has not received word as to Roseaniline's whereabouts. We will keep you posted with more details as they become available...

Rescued
After almost seven months in captivity, Roseaniline Ammonia was returned safely to Master Alchemist Chip Bennett on a visit to Upsilon chapter in October 1999. Returning with little or no explanation as to her whereabouts during the ordeal, Roseaniline now sports an Upsilon tag around her neck.

Shortly after returning to Iota Chapter, Roseaniline traveled with Chip Bennett and Don Cole (Iota '97) to Beta Nu (Purdue University) for the Beta Nu and Beta Nu Colony (Valparaiso University) initiation.

Second Trip West - Kidnapped Again!
In November of 1999, Roseaniline again traveled to chapters east, this time accompanying Chip Bennett and John Becker. She first paid a visit to Georgetown University with Chip Bennett and Joanna Ossinger (Tau '95), where she posed for a few incriminating photos. Roseaniline then visited Alpha Pi (George Washington University) for a chapter meeting. Meeting up with John Becker, Roseaniline then visited Beta Upsilon (American University) en route to the Tetra Banquet, which was held at Alpha Rho (University of Maryland). There, Roseaniline made her first official visit with the Chesapeake Bay Professional Chapter, who hosted the banquet, and also the Washington Professional Chapter.

The following day, Roseaniline accompanied John Becker as the two, as well as Chip Bennett, Joanna Ossinger, and Abbey House (ACDC), traveled to Nu Chapter Colony (Penn State University) for their initiation. Sometime during the post-initiation events, Roseaniline disappeared! Rumors have circulated that Roseaniline is in the custody of some members of Gamma Iota (Virginia Institute of Technology) who were also present at the initiation; however, the chapter has received no official word as to the whereabouts of Roseaniline. Again, details will be forthcoming as they become available...

Kidnapped Yet Again!
The only record showed that she had been kidnapped while visiting Nu chapter. Responses (in March 2000) to e-mail inquiries with Gamma Iota chapter suggested that she had moved south for the colder months (she had been M.I.A. since November). However subsequent searches only resulted in references to asking Nu Chapter. Our traveling brother was discovered guarding the library on South Pugh Street for Penn State where she claims to have been since April 15th at the latest. A few e-mails, and months later she mysteriously arrived in Kentucky via FedEx and was subsequently forwarded via USAir to National Conclave 2000 in St. Louis.

The Joys of Conclave
While enjoying the company and activities, our feline brother was taken hostage by members of Nu (Penn State) chapter and guests from Alpha chapter in turn. She did enjoy a tour of Anhauser-Busch brewery, a visit to the cats of St. Louis zoo, as well as a charming tale orated by the ghost of the Lavender Lady in an old family brewery. Before leaving St. Louis Rosaniline was sure to stop by the 'happy hour' section of the local grocery while her brothers searched for more solid sustenance.

Home for a Cat-Nap
Rosaniline has returned to Iota chapter to secure her continued rights to active membership. Further travels...Both Zeta initiations and Fall initiation at Upsilon, where she was remembered by many of the brothers. North Central district conclave, with leash to avoid Becker "misplacing" her again. She is spending summer in Terre Haute with Chris Nicholson.

Out West
Rosaniline has chosen not to stay in the area for the North Central district conclave. At National Conclave in August, 2004 she met a hot looking guy and decided to following him home. She is now visiting one of the newest chapters that has formed. Hopefully she will bring back some good pictures with a lot of good stories to go with them.
