The Media Cart
Powering On:
1. Plug in the power cord located in the back left of the cart.
2. The switch on the power strip should be lit, if not flip the switch.
3. To turn on the computer, press the power button on the front of the CPU.
4. The Sympodium’s power button is in the upper right corner, just above the screen.
5. The Document Camera power button is on the far left of the row of buttons.
6. The projector’s power button is the button closest to the lens.
7. The audio control is on the right speaker. If the light does not come on the switch is on the back of the speaker.
The Projector:
1. To enlarge/shrink the image, use the outer most dial.
2. If the image is unfocused, use the dial with the tab to focus the image.
3. If the projector is not projecting the correct image, press the “Computer” Button.
4. If the projector is no longer needed, press the power button two times.
5. If the projector is not turning on:
- Check the power, at least a red light should be on near the power button.
- If the power light is red, and the lamp light is flashing green the projector is cooling down. Let sit until the lamp light turns off, and then try again.
- If the lamp light is flashing red or steady red, than the lamp needs to be replaced. Contact the A/V department.
- If the Temperature light is flashing red, there are temperature problems. Check the bottom of the projector for debris, if none, wait for the projector to cool down and try again. If the problem persists contact the A/V department.
The Computer:
1. The computer is connected to the wireless network, and you can login using your Kerberos Screen Name and Password. In the Log onto box make sure it is “ROSE-HULMAN.edu (Kerberos Realm)”.
2. All files that you wish to save should be saved to you network drive.
3. To shut down the computer, you must first log off and then from the login screen click “Shutdown”.
Video/DVD:
1. To view a video tape or DVD, place it in the appropriate machine.
2. Press the right button on the SMART X-PORT.
3. Press the input button on the tvone until:
- S-IN is for the DVD player.
- V-IN is for the VCR.
- PC-IN is not used.
4. Select the appropriate input on the grey box. (They are labeled).
5. When finished, return the grey box to “COMP”. Then switch the SMART X-PORT to the computer with the left button.
The Document Camera:
1. Remove the lens cap and lift the main arm (press the button on the pivot and raise the main arm until it locks).
2. To view the images from the document camera only, press the middle button on the SMART X-PORT.
3. To view the images from inside windows, double click on the SDP-900 Document Camera Icon on the desktop. (note: the images are not as smooth inside Windows) It is possible to same the images by using the capture button. Be sure to save them to the network drive.
4. To adjust the image:
a. The IRIS button will adjust the brightness.
b. ZOOM will zoom in and out on the document.
c. FOCUS will focus the image.
d. LAMP will switch between the arms, the base, and off.
5. The arms may need to be adjusted to equalize the light on the document.
6. If the image seems distorted turn the camera off, and then back on.
7. If NO EXT# SYNC appears in the upper left of the screen, press the “INT/EXT” until INTERNAL appears.
8. If the image is black, or very dark, press the positive IRIS button until the proper brightness is reached. (note: the camera will take a second to adjust the image)
9. To turn off the Camera press the power button. Then replace the lens cover, press the button at the pivot and lower the main arm until it locks, and lower the side arms until they are flat against the base.
Using the Stylus with the Sympodium:
The stylus can be used as a mouse, and as an electronic writing utensil.
1. To use the Sympodium’s handwriting recognizer, click on the SMART Board icon by the clock and click on keyboard.
2. There is an on screen keyboard and a writing box. To use the keyboard, individually click on the key you would like to use. To convert writing to text, click on the Write button, and write inside the big white box. Don’t try to write too much at once, if you run out of room just pause and the program will convert it to text. Then continue writing once the box is cleared. The program does not know what you are thinking, so you may have to check the text. When finished make sure the cursor is where you would like the text, and then click commit.
3. The Stylus can be used to take notes over applications by pressing the pen buttons across the top. If you make a mistake, use the eraser to erase it. To save the notes, click the capture button. (Be sure to save this to your network drive).
4. If you would like to take notes using the stylus, open the Notebook from the SMART Board icon. This program also allows you to change the color of the text. You can also convert the writing to text, but if the text is not correct edit it using the keyboard. If you would like to save the notes, be sure to save them on the network.
5. The Sympodium can be used to add notes to a power point presentation, but the notes will be lost after the slide is advanced. The notes can be saved to the slide but will be permanent. To save them, click the middle button on the floating bar, then “Save to PowerPoint.” Note: these changes will not affect the original file, unless you specify that you would like to save them to the original.
